Rules and regulations every backpacker should know and follow are outlined, as well as directions to using the reservation system. The majority are day use trails but there are three main backpacking trails – the Eastern Pines (loops of 6-15km), Highland (19-35km) and Western Uplands (32-88km).
Algonquin Park’s interpretive walking trails are available for day hiking outings. Each trail is designed to explore a different aspect of Algonquin and each has a trail guide booklet . Trails are open year-round, but trail guide booklets are available at trail heads from late spring to early fall.

The day trails at Algonquin Park are all clearly marked, clean and a pleasure to hike. The day trails at Algonquin Park are all clearly marked, clean and a pleasure to hike. There is no need for extra gear and there is plenty of cell service on the trails (though in some areas the signal can be weak or cut out). This is a great alternative to backing in the backcountry especially for beginner hikers or individuals passing through the area who are short on time.
Trails: Algonquin Park has 14 day-hiking trails 1 to 10 km in length along Highway 60 and three others: two in the eastern section and one in the northern section of the park. There are also three backpacking trails up to 88 km long.

    Algonquin Park’s interpretive walking trails are available for day hiking outings. Each trail is designed to explore a different aspect of Algonquin and each has a trail guide booklet . Trails are open year-round, but trail guide booklets are available at trail heads from late spring to early fall.

    Algonquin Park is a huge park with many campgrounds and many entrances and many hiking trails. We knew we were headed to the Mew Lake campground but we stopped first at the Information Center about 30 km before Mew Lake.
